University of Wyoming women and rsquo;s head golf coach Josey Stender has announced the signing of Taylor Smalley to a national letter of intent to join the Cowgirls golf team in the 2009-10 season.

Smalley comes to Wyoming from Pierre where she is a two-sport athlete. Smalley lettered once in volleyball and all-four years in golf.

During her golf career she became the only Lady Governor to win the Greater Dakota Conference championship and the first-ever student-athlete to become the state Class AA champion for her high school. No male or female has ever accomplished the state AA champion honor. Both of these achievements occurred during Smalley and rsquo;s junior year.

On the heels of their best team round of the season, the University of Wyoming Cowboy golf team jumped from ninth place to seventh during the second round of competition at the 2009 Mountain West Conference Mens Golf Championship in Tucson, Ariz. The Cowboys shot an even-par 284 on Friday and moved ahead of both Utah and Air Force in the team standings.
