2009-04-01 UNLV sports report card : The Rebel YellSage Sammons: In one of the most anticipated years in recent history, the mens basketball team started strong. Going 5-2 in November and 7-0 in December, including wins over a Sweet 16 matchup (Louisville and Arizona) the Rebels were on track to earn an A, but the steaming train turned into the little engine that couldnt and the Rebels fell short in the end. Losses against TCU, Colorado State and Wyoming were very similar to not studying before important quizzes or missing required-attendance classes. In the end the Rebels got good grades in big tests against BYU and with one win against Utah, Louisville and Arizona. But losing to San Diego State three times (twice within five days) is what their final grade reflects. In reality was the greatest day of the season, when should have been.
