2006-12-15 Mo Palmer: There was once a real winter in the Duke City : Columnists : Albuquerque Tribune

Hawthorne Elementary School, at General Somervell Street and Copper Avenue Northeast, was hard hit. Thats between Wyoming and Eubank boulevards, a few blocks north of Central Avenue. Think Wal-Mart, Costco, Home Depot, and Hotel Circle, practically the mid-heights now. No Winrock, no Coronado, no Los Altos Golf Course, just mesa. Newspapers labeled the school "the extreme Northeast Heights. "

Drivers waited so long on northbound Wyoming for the car ahead to move that their cars ran out of gas. Nobody was going anywhere. People left their cars and started walking.

Choi were among the leaders in the womens tournament that concludes Monday.
