2006-10-04 The New Age Examiner - Trail golfers reach playoffsAfter an absence of more than 15 years, the Lackawanna Trail golf program was revived five years ago with head coach Rich Revta at the helm. Even when Trail did not offer a golf program, Revta would take the schools most talented golfers to compete in the district tournament, which is open to any high school golfer. Revta has coached the squad since its renewal. The 2006 season marked the Lions first in the Lackawanna Leagues Northern Division. Trail was consistently competitive in the Southern Division, Revta said, but could not amass a solid record because of teams like Scranton Prep and Abington Heights with powerhouse golf programs. "We ran into teams we couldnt compete with," Revta said. The coach believes that the competition level in the Southern Division helped the Lions to their success this season. www.newage-examiner.com FACTORYVILLE - With a win over Susquehanna last week, the Lackawanna Trail golf team clinched a playoff berth for the first time since the program was revived five years ago.
2006-10-17 Times Leader Group hoping lacrosse is a hitThe season would start in the spring, so unfortunately we would be butting heads right up against baseball, said Chris Hample, a Wyoming Seminary graduate and the Back Mountain Bandits coach. I think once kids start to play this game, theyll find that theyre always moving, theyre always running, theyre always doing something. Everyone stays involved. Its not stop and start like baseball. In addition to the support of the Misericordia staff, the Bandits have been promised a place to practice and play at a new athletic complex off of Outlet Road in Dallas. The Wyoming Seminary lacrosse program donated helmets and gloves, and the group has received several private donations.
2006-10-08 The Enquirer - Gentile misses coaching terriblyUrsuline senior Kelsey Lindenschmidt, the areas top girls golfer, has been named an HP Scholastic Junior All-American by the American Junior Golf Association. The team honors golfers who also excel in the classroom, and Lindenschmidt A Wyoming player, Jackie Drachman, left the team last winter after some disagreements with Gentile. Drachmans father, David, allegedly made a threatening phone call to Gentile. Bottom line: Wyoming told Gentile she was through. Gentile has a pending civil suit against Drachman and her former employers at Wyoming, including principal Annie Wade and athletic director Jim Barre. That issue probably wont be heard until sometime in 2007, with depositions still to be taken.
