Burkhart shot 77 at Kaufman Golf Course in Wyoming on Monday and then made a 15-foot putt for par on the first playoff hole to earn a berth in the Division 1 state tournament later this week.

Perhaps someone forgot to tell Jackson High School golfer Kevin Burkhart that freshmen dont usually qualify for the state tournament, especially in Division 1.

The Division 1 state tournament is set for Friday and Saturday at Eagle Crest Golf Course in Ypsilanti.

As with most boys golf teams in the area, Godwin Heights got an unexpected day off when rain and snow conditions caused most postseason tournaments to be wiped out Thursday and Friday.
