2006-08-19 Barbecue, fair planned for new students to NICSponsored by Mountain West Bank, the event is free to all new, incoming NIC students and includes a free barbecue and fair from 11 a. m. to 1 p. m. Live music will be provided by Cary Judd, a guitarist, drummer, singer and songwriter from Wyoming. The fair will include game booths with prizes for activities such as a disc golf putting booth and a whiffle ball home-run contest. The booths will be operated by NIC faculty and staff who will also help answer questions that new students have about the college. 2006-08-16 Community Press-Golfers optimistic about tough seasonNelson was joined by the senior trio of Brooke Baria, Lauren Riley and Emily Sweetman. All four Comet golfers received all-conference first team honors for their performance. Reeder also earned conference coach of the year honors after the Comets were able to best their nearest competitor, Kings, by 19 strokes to capture the conference crown. For the second straight season the Mason girls golf team captured the Fort Ancient Valley Conference Buckeye Division crown in 2005. However, for the second straight year the Comets finished just short of reaching another goal, qualifying for the state tournament.

2006-08-14 Teams prepare for quick turnaround in first practicesIn Converse County, Douglas coaches were given the annual burden of not only coaching their own teams but other athletes from across the state. The Wyoming State Fair is in Douglas this week, and Douglas opens its doors to the states athletes so they are allowed to compete in the first games of the season. Eric Long led the tournament in hits (14), Jimmy Brittingham and Marvin Banaag tied for the lead in runs scored (11) and Brittingham had the most RBI (16). Gary McKee, left, and Jim Brittingham were key parts to Camden-Wyomings run in the Senior League baseball Eastern Regional last week. Brittingham set the tournament record for RBI with 15. The numbers tell the story. While Camden-Wyoming played eight games, everyone else in the 10-team field played more than five. C-W logged 49 innings compared to just 27 played by champion Bloomfield, N. J.
