In the usd. 500,000 West Virginia Breeders Classic, Funkhousers veteran 10-year-old gelding Confucius Say would officially eclipse the usd. 1 million career earnings mark with a victory in a race he won in 2001 and 2002 and - perhaps - last year as well. Confucius Say, with jockey Larry C. Reynolds aboard, took second after Oscar Flores rode Eastern Delite past him late in last years race. But in the days following that matchup, Eastern Delite tested positive for a banned substance, caffeine, and track officials disqualified the horse. That would give Confucius Say that win, and technically means Funkhousers horse has already gone over the usd. 1 million mark in winnings. But Eastern Delites ownership is still appealing that decision. www.journal-news.net
