The Nationwide Tours Bank of America Open (formerly LaSalle Bank Open) in Chicago will host its first-ever Amateur Invitational. On at Oak Park Country Club in River Grove, Ill. , approximately 60 amateur golfers will compete for an automatic exemption into the Open, with a usd. 5,000 donation going to the winners charity of choice. The Bank of America Open will also donate usd. 5,000 to the Sunshine Through Golf Foundation. Organized in conjunction with the Chicago District Golf Association (CDGA), the Bank of America Open Amateur Invitational will invite the top golfers in Illinois to participate. 2008-03-08 Cancer night hits close to home for Ftorek

In a way, Ftoreks promising golf career, and The Betty Puskar Breast Care Center in Morgantown, W. Va. , helped save her life. Two months before her diagnosis, Ftorek enjoyed a tour of the facility while in town for the Betty Puskar Futures Golf Classic. As soon as Ftorek found the lump, she called the center, which is operated by West Virginia University Hospitals. A few days later, she underwent surgery.

She participates in many events for breast cancer awareness every year, including her annual visit to Morgantown for the Puskar Classic, which raises funds for the Breast Care Center. A decade ago, Ftorek created the Ftorek Finale, a golf tournament at her home course which raises money for breast cancer awareness in the Binghamton region.
