After tearing knee ligaments while playing basketball that winter, then going through a lengthy rehabilitation, Curley said she gave up other sports and focused on golf.

To say that An has been playing a lot of golf recently would be an understatement. After winning the Regional Tournament last Wednesday, he boarded a plane the following morning and traveled to Oklahoma for the PING Invitational. He played Friday through Monday there, returned to Virginia late Monday night, and woke up a few hours later.

Patrons at this weeks Virginia AAA golf tournament were treated to this on Wednesday, as Fairfax senior Binnari Kim and Gloucesters Zach Bowman replayed the first hole at Bide-a-wee Golf Club in Portsmouth to decide who would take fifth place.

2006-10-19 EMU Athletics - EMU Hosts Paul R. Yoder Sr. Golf Classic

The afternoon groups were divided into three flights of based on final scores with the top two teams in each flight receiving free rounds of golf at courses in Virginia, West Virginia and Pennsylvania. Prizes were also given for closest to the pin. Over 115 golfers participated in the event. The Loyal Royals are hopeful to net over usd. 10,000 for projects above the operating budget that benefit all teams.

Formerly known as the Loyal Royals Golf Classic and held in conjunction with Homecoming, the golf outing was renamed this year in honor of Paul R. Yoder Sr. , a long time member of the Loyal Royals with a passion for EMU athletics. Paul was also a former staff person in the church relations office. Pauls four sons all attended EMU.

BYU junior Daniel Summerhays continues to earn national attention after setting an NCAA record during the final round of the nations top fall golf tournament, the PING Preview at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club in Virginia. His amazing 10-under-par 60 shattered BYU records, broke Jack Nicklaus course record 67 and tied three others as the only collegiate golfers to shoot a 60.

His final round included two bogeys and twelve birdies and has earned the praise of many in the golf community. Ron Balicki of Golfweek Magazine called Summerhays final round one of "the best Ive ever witnessed. " He also described Summerhays as "one of the finest young men in collge golf. "

GLEN ALLEN, Va. -- The Marshall womens golf team was in fourth place Monday after the first round of the Spider Invitational with a team score of 327, 16 shots off the lead. The two-day tournament at the par-72 Virginia Crossings Golf Club is hosted by the University of Richmond.

No golfer matched par. Marshall senior Tammy Mahar posted the Herds top score of 78, four shots behind leader AnnMarie Dalton of High Point. The "B" team from Virginia was the first-round team leader at 311.

SUFFOLK, VA Hampden-Sydneys golf team won the Virginia State Championship Tuesday at the 7,077-yard, par-72, Nansemond River Golf Club with a two-day team score of 604 as the Tigers scored their first victory in the tournament since 2002. Junior

The Tigers racked up scores of 298 and 306 as a team over the two day event, besting Old Dominion Athletic Conference-foe Randolph-Macon by seven strokes, 604-611. Christopher Newport was third at 618, followed by Roanoke (619), Bridgewater (628), Virginia Wesleyan (639), Newport News Apprentice (644), Marymount (646), Shenandoah (647), Lynchburg (651) and Ferrum (660). Roanokes Bill McDonald finished at 142 (72-70) to score medalist honors.

James Rivers Marshall Bailey won the VSGA Junior Amateur this summer and has signed with Virginia Tech. Floyd County junior Jessica Hollandsworth won the 2004 VHSL title and is one of the states premier junior girls players. Singleton also figures to be a major contender in the state tournament at Piankatank Golf Club in Hartfield.

Its the first collegiate coaching job for McPherson, who recently graduated from Belmont Abbey College with a bachelors degree in sports management. He was a member of the golf team from 2004-06, and was selected to the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference All-Conference Team. McPherson also played golf from 2002-04 at Brevard (Fla. ) Community College.

Prior to his collegiate playing career, McPherson was an assistant pro at the International Club of Myrtle Beach from 2000-02 and Burning Ridge Golf Club from 1998-99, where he was heavily involved in junior golf.
