2006-10-10 BYU Mens Golf Press ReleaseBYU junior Daniel Summerhays continues to earn national attention after setting an NCAA record during the final round of the nations top fall golf tournament, the PING Preview at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club in Virginia. His amazing 10-under-par 60 shattered BYU records, broke Jack Nicklaus course record 67 and tied three others as the only collegiate golfers to shoot a 60. His final round included two bogeys and twelve birdies and has earned the praise of many in the golf community. Ron Balicki of Golfweek Magazine called Summerhays final round one of "the best Ive ever witnessed. " He also described Summerhays as "one of the finest young men in collge golf. "

2006-10-18 H-SC Athletics: GolfSUFFOLK, VA Hampden-Sydneys golf team won the Virginia State Championship Tuesday at the 7,077-yard, par-72, Nansemond River Golf Club with a two-day team score of 604 as the Tigers scored their first victory in the tournament since 2002. Junior The Tigers racked up scores of 298 and 306 as a team over the two day event, besting Old Dominion Athletic Conference-foe Randolph-Macon by seven strokes, 604-611. Christopher Newport was third at 618, followed by Roanoke (619), Bridgewater (628), Virginia Wesleyan (639), Newport News Apprentice (644), Marymount (646), Shenandoah (647), Lynchburg (651) and Ferrum (660). Roanokes Bill McDonald finished at 142 (72-70) to score medalist honors.

He was a member of the golf team from 2004-06, and was selected to the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference All-Conference Team. McPherson also played golf from 2002-04 at Brevard (Fla. ) Community College. Prior to his collegiate playing career, McPherson was an assistant pro at the International Club of Myrtle Beach from 2000-02 and Burning Ridge Golf Club from 1998-99, where he was heavily involved in junior golf.
