At 7,446 yards, the Rees Jones-designed Ralston Creek Course is the longest course on the Nationwide Tour this season, 14 yards longer than the TPC Virginia Beach course. The third hole, which measures 618 yards, is the fourth longest Nationwide Tour par-5, while the 249-yard ninth is the second longest par-3.

I feel good. I like the golf course. Its perfect for me: fast greens, its long, high rough. You have to hit it straight off the tee. Im certainly looking forward to playing this week. If it was a perfect world, Id play a golf course like this every week," Biershenk said.

Mauldin tells his story: "Gabe was my letter carrier in the early 1980s and I had a big garden. His wife, Virginia, taught me how to make chili macho. I left Midland for nine years and when I came back I learned that Virginia was a new patient needing hospice care. When I went to their house, Virginia came down the hall and said, Susie, I had been wishing you were here. "

2006-10-19 Langleys Baker Takes Charge

Curley, who recovered from three double bogeys during a five-hole stretch in regulation, seemed to have momentum entering the playoff after making par on the final eight holes. She took up golf only three years ago, after the Virginia High School League moved the tennis season to the spring. After tearing knee ligaments while playing basketball that winter, then going through a lengthy rehabilitation, Curley said she gave up other sports and focused on golf.

Her goals were to stay dry and put the ball in the hole Tuesday, and Langleys Brigette Baker did both consistently enough to finish tops among area competitors at the Virginia golf championship.
