SUFFOLK, Va. Shenandoah University shot a collective 324 to stand ninth after day one of the Virginia State Division III championships Sunday afternoon at Nansemond River Golf Club.

Junior Nick Yates had the best day of the Hornets five golfers with a one-over-par 73 at the par 72, 7007 yard layout. Yates just missed a birdie putt on No. 18 to shoot a level par round. He is currently 2nd of the 60 golfers in the 11-team tournament.
