Green Mountain National Golf Course in Killington tops the list for courses in Vermont. Though stunning year round, the course beckons in the fall when the famous New England foliage coats the course in every color but green. The rolling hills of the course complement the steady rise of the Green Mountains from which the fairways were carved. You can enjoy a mountain setting without losing your breath from the climb. Green Mountain National Golf Courses 16th tee boasts splendid panoramic views of the landscape, and you can still see rock formations in the surrounding mountains created by glaciers hundreds of years ago. The course plays to par 71 over 6,589 yards of Bent grass. www.pgatour.com
Where are we The Green Mountain State. Known for cows and a tricky-to-pronounce state capital (think back to when you were a kid), Vermont is one of the six New England states -- though s T. J. Auclair (a Rhode Island native) will be quick to tell you its not the best of the six. - 2008 Joseph Smith Ceri Mobley Associate Site Producer
Bob Hill, Executive Vice President of the Vermont Association of Realtors says that there is a combination of market forces that have contributed to the stability of the real estate market in Vermont. For one, "A shortage of housing inventory for the past few years has kept the demand high," and the process to build new homes in Vermont is more controlled. According to Mr. Hill, "The market in Vermont didnt see the rampant speculation that causes over-building, and this has led to Vermonts ability to stay closer to supply and demand than other areas that have suffered. In roughly 1963, my dad, Rowland Armacost, first walked the property on which Waubeeka now stands. His journey started up the present 10th fairway and upon reaching the site of the 10th green, he took in the views of Mount Greylock to the east, Hancock and New York state to the south and west and the Green Mountains of Vermont to the north. Dad was inspired by the splendor of the panoramic view, the balance of rolling terrain along with level, fertile farm land, complete with a natural water hazard, the meandering Green River. All of these elements were suitably fit for a golf course. Soon thereafter, the knob of terrain upon which the 10th hole sits was dubbed "Inspiration Hill. " www.berkshireeagle.com

Early indicators suggest that all of the Parks Vermont and Western Canyons have been turned over to Disney and the eviction of park users has already begun. Today, most of the diagonal public parking spaces in Vermont Canyon near its trailheads are coned off. The oak-shaded picnic area opposite the Greek at the corner of Commonwealth Canyon and Vermont Canyon is closed and locked. The gate to the large picnic/play lawn north of the Greek is drawn and locked. Walking/hiking/running the trails, or beating the heat in the picnic areas is a no-go from now until Sunday. Not known is whether or when Fern Dells picnic areas, the Vermont Canyon tennis courts and Vermont Canyons Roosevelt golf course will be closed to users and what the impact on cyclists will be. laist.com

UVM Class of 1949, left the university with a degree in chemistry and mathematics and a love for Vermont (and a Vermonter) that would keep her tethered to the state for life. Following graduate work at Cornell, she and the Vermonter, Malcolm Severance, married and eventually returned, spending their first six years in Converse Hall dormitory, where Gladys was head resident and their three children had adoring babysitters. Later, Gladys became Colchesters delinquent tax collector, a role she approached as a counselor rather than enforcer. She and Malcolm have partnered for many years in planning an ambitious development on former family land, Severance Corners. An active volunteer for many causes, Gladys Severance co-founded Burlingtons Meals-on-Wheels program in 1972 and initiated Colchesters first Girl Scouts program in www.uvm.edu
Now, I must admit Im self-diagnosed (with the help of the Google, of course), but Ace makes braces for this injury, so it must be the real deal. The worse part is that its cost me two weeks out of what is already a short golf season in Vermont, and my step count has certainly suffered the residual consequences. I suppose my record breaking season for the Trek for Health with have to wait for another year. www.benningtonbanner.com
U John Sbordone didnt break par while playing The Pine Course this past week but he sure had himself one heckuva day. Sbordone, a longtime student of stage plays and a brilliant director in Flagler County today, eagled the par-5 15th while playing the Mens Day with Don Hunt, Shelby Lee and Paul Libutaque. That hole is at least 444 yards away from the white tees and 515 yards from the blues so it takes two pretty good whacks to get close enough for one putt and an eagle. Unless, of course, he chipped in with a third shot. Sbordone also beat some admired golfers, like Lee, Al Parker, Stan Walker, Larry Guidi, Mike Carter and John West, in the regular 18-hole competition. Hunt and Libutaque themselves, along with Tom Barrett and George Pollio, are not exactly scared rabbits in this wonderful game we call golf. www.news-journalonline.com
