2007-03-09 Titleist debuts new drivers: 907D1, 907D2

The new 907D2, which has been the more popular choice to date among Tour players, was played to a fast start as the driver choice of the winner of the PGA European Tours South African Airways Open in December, the first week he put it into play. On the US PGA Tour, the 907D2 was played by the runner-up at the season-opening Mercedes-Benz Championship, who also finished 7th at the Sony Open in Hawaii the following week. In addition, the 907D2 is also being played with success by Adam Scott, Ben Crane, Arron Oberholser, Brett Quigley, Ben Curtis, Jason Bohn, Brad Faxon, Eric Axley, Bill Haas, Robert Gamez, Daisuke Maruyama and rookies Andrew Buckle and Johnson Wagner among others. Ashleigh Simon, of Bedfordview, who turns 18 in May, turned on the charm at the Acer South African Womens Open golf championship on a bright and warm sunny day at the Durban Country Club as she fired a nine under par second round of 64 on Friday to lead the field into the final round with a 36-holes total of 133.

It may be recalled that Stacy and Ashleigh were partners, along with Kellie Shean, when they created a touch of womens golfing history by becoming the first South African team to win the amateur world teams championship and with it the Espirito Santos Trophy last year.

The 20-year-old accumulated R80 000 plus and has put herself in pole position for a place in the Womens World Cup team along with Simon.

Ashleigh has been instrumental in motivating young girls to take to the fairways and there are a whole new crop of players coming through the ranks, as young as eight, competing in Little Kids Golf tournaments for a chance to participate in the US Kids Golf Championship later this year.
