2008-07-08 Techniques to create and improve initiative in your teamHarness the natural competitiveness of your people. Most people are competitive by nature, especially in areas where they feel they have an advantage. However, in situations where they dont feel they have the advantage, only a few will see this as a challenge and a means to raise the bar on their own performance. This is where the leader comes into play as a catalyst for competitive action. Competitive spirit can be harnessed in numerous ways, but the two main ones are to focus on beating an opponent (as in team sports) or to focus on improving ones own score (as in golf). The former can be used as a catalyst for team effort in gaining market share or in developing wholly new products, services and processes. The golf analogy applies in many areas where direct competition is not as easy or evident, such as in government. In By Richard Martin We live in such a complex world that it is not possible for a leader to singlehandedly come up with all the solutions and innovations required for organizational and business success. Many employees also want to have sufficient power and authority to resolve issues and initiate changes within their respective mandates. Here are some techniques and approaches that can be used by
2008-07-08 Mental Tips For a Better Golf GameJack Nicklaus had a habit of repeatedly asking himself two beneficial questions. They were: "How am I going to win this tournament" and "How do I want to play this shot" Fairly innocent questions, but just think, if Nicklaus had been in the habit of asking two different ones: "Why is my bad shot an over-the-top pull" and "Why is winning tournaments such a struggle" we might never have heard of the man who was voted the greatest golfer of the 20th century.
2008-07-08 Kerrville Daily TimesBut let me preface this by saying I am not a golfer. Like Ive said before, I wrestled and played baseball. But golf was never my sport. For the most part, whether it was because of over-swinging, bad form, horrible technique or the likely combination of all three, the ball generally flew every which way but straight. Playing with borrowed clubs and the wrong type of shoes, I was outplayed and outdone by golfers three-times my age.

2008-07-07 Coral Oaks junior golf program helps kids work on game The News-PressThis marked the 20th summer that golfers ages 7 to 18 have taken over the course in the early Monday hours. This years program was so popular that Marianne Drahos, president of the board of directors for the Cape Coral Junior Golf Association, had to turn away 100 players. The humidity, or perhaps concentration, caused the sweat to bead up on several foreheads of the young golfers in the Coral Oaks junior golf program. With any luck, three hours into the instruction, the perspiration paid off with improved putts and straighter swings. At 7:45 a. m. , the sun is still relatively weak, deflected partly by the thick leaves of the large oak trees at Coral Oaks Golf Course. - Cape Coral Southwest Florida Florida News local news headlines stories world news
