Sweden Golf 20072007-09-08 Ron Sirak: On The Road To The Solheim Cup: Columnists:Speaking of skill levels, while instruction is readily available, access to most golf courses is not until you have a verified handicap of 36. Literally, they dont let you on a golf course until you know what you are doing. Thats not a bad idea. Golf is brought to the people trough junior clinics at games run by the Swedish Golf Federation at streets fairs, amusement parks and at the beach. Children are encouraged to take lessons, given access to practice facilities and then, when they are ready, taken out onto the golf course. The retention rate -- about as many players quit the game each year in the United States as take it up -- is not a problem in Sweden. www.golfdigest.com Golf Digest - Ron Sirak Solheim Cup LPGA On the road

2007-10-12 Healthy Choices - Carnegie Mellon TodayWithout visiting the schools, he looks at the many brochures. He cant help but notice Schenley Golf Course from an aerial shot of the Carnegie Mellon campus featured in the university catalog. The idea of being on a campus that had its own golf course was pretty amazing, he says. As soon as he arrives in Pittsburgh in 1971, he realizes that the catalog certainly did its job well; the 18 holes turn out to be less dynamic than he thought. But he soon finds out that the region around Pittsburgh probably has more golf courses than all of Sweden, and the sport becomes his regular diversion after classes. www.carnegiemellontoday.com

2007-06-01 Annika Discusses ComebackANNIKA SORENSTAM: I must say this is a golf course thats growing on me. I played a few holes on Monday. The conditions then, they were a little different than today. It was a little bit drier. I felt like the fairways was a little bit firmer, and so were the greens. Yesterday I played nine holes. It was a little softer. But today I thought the course was in better shape. I think they watered the fairways and the greens overnight. It was a little softer. It felt like the first two days, didnt really matter where you hit the drive, they all end up in the same place. Today I felt like I was playing really good. Its a fun golf course. I think the challenges are out there. We have some interesting greens, the shape of them. You have to work the ball off the tee. Its a good golf course. www.cybergolf.com On the eve of the Ginn Tribute Hosted by Annika in Mount Pleasant, S. C. , tournament hostess Annika Sorenstam discussed her LPGA return.
