Because I live on the south side of Stevenson Lane, I have to cross the street to walk them because there isnt any sidewalk for most of the south side of the street. I absolutely cannot safely cross the street. I was walking them Friday afternoon. I waited until no cars were coming from either side and started to cross. The next thing I knew a car was speeding up from the golf course, saw us crossing and failed to slow down. I put up my hand almost like a crossing guard and yelled "slow down". All he did was fly around us onto the opposite side of the street. Each casino has different rules, but generally a bad beat is when a player with a very strong hand gets beaten by an even stronger hand. At Harrahs, for example, four of a kind must get beaten by a higher four of a kind or a straight flush to qualify as a bad beat. 2010-03-06 Ask Boswell: Nats Spring Training, Stephen Strasburg, MLB, Olympics and moreI love the Maryland-Duke games because, over the decades, Ive really learned to hate Duke. My mom went to Duke, was Prez of the womens student body, dated the captain of the basketball team, etc. So, I had to listen to a lot of Duke growing up. But its really Coach K that has done the trick for me. Hes admirable. But hes so condescending, so pup-out-of-Bobby-Knight. The way he patted Gary Williams on the shoulder last night -- like he was Garys father or something -- after Maryland won was the definition of why I cant stand Duke. Its a good thing Im not a coach. I had a bad temper when young and even now, if hed put his arm on my shoulder like that -- and Id known how it looked, how calculated to make it seem that Duke would win (easily) the next time -- I think Id have slapped it off. Washington Post sports columnist Thomas Boswell will be online to take your questions about the start of Spring Training for the Nationals, Stephen Strasburgs development, Mike Rizzos additions, the rest of Major League Baseball and his latest columns from Spring Training.
2010-05-27 Golf Course Industry Magazine : COVER STORY: Pro/Con - A cautionary taleOur company, along with 16 other state groups and associations, opposed the growth of government golf in Maryland by the Maryland Economic Development Corp. (MEDCO), a quasi-governmental institution which exists to promote economic growth. At the time they had four major golf projects underway and ndash; resorts, a conference center and, of course, a 36-hole course which supported someone else and rsquo;s housing development. Now, I could easily launch into an extended treatise on the perils associated with supporting government golf. But I fear that for many of you reading this it and rsquo;s a tired argument that may do more to encourage you to turn the page than to consider the ramifications I, and many other pretty smart people in this great profession, believe government-supported golf will have on the long-term sustainability of our industry. 2010-04-10 Ehrlich OMalley Maryland governors raceSue in Arnold - Perhaps you should get out of your neighborhood more often. The vast majority of Maryland citizens who support Governor OMalley and President Obama have you surrounded. Some of us are liberal, some are progressives, and Im willing to bet that some conservatives, too, believe in the leadership we have in place. Ehrlich and Steele spent their time in office getting plenty of face-time on TV, at fashion shows and on the golf course while the nefarious creeps they hired worked behind the scenes to dismantle effective departments and programs. And then there were the taxes they called "fees". Im very happy with the path this state and our country is on now. We deserved and needed this president after suffering under the tyranny of Bush-Cheney. They spit on the Constitution and belong in prison. I get my news from eight Maryland will vote for Bob Ehrlich because it is as fed up with Martin OMalley as it is with President Obama. - READERS_RESPOND NEWS

2010-02-24 The Chat House with Michael Wilbon: Bode Miller, US Canada,Tiger Woods, Olympics, NBA trades, Wizards and moreYeah, I dont get it either. Maryland has beaten Wake Forest, which had been ranked until today, and Georgia Tech which was ranked earlier in the year, and Florida State which was ranked 19th when Maryland beat them. Maryland is 28th right now. A win over Clemson will almost certainly get them into the top 20. If they beat Duke a week from Wednesday, that could vault Maryland into a share of first place in the ACC. Who knew This Maryland team has something going on, something where the whole seems to be greater than the sum of the parts. Very nice to watch.
