The first place winner of the competition, Aaron Johnsen, receives a usd. 6,000 scholarship and is honored as the Mendenhall Award Winner. The second place winner in the competition, Jason Oliver, receives a usd. 5,000 award and is designated as the recipient of the Allan MacCurrach Award. The MacCurrach Award is funded by the PGA Tour. Johnsen, a Woodbury, Minn. , native, is a senior environmental horticulture major with an emphasis in turfgrass management at the University of Minnesota and Oliver, who hails from Portland, Ore. , is a horticulture/golf course turf management major at Oregon State University scheduled to graduate in December. Both of them will also receive an all-expense paid trip to the GCSAA Education Conference and Golf Industry Show this February in Anaheim, Calif.

However, Lindblad said he never doubted his ability and, after an offseason that included countless hours on the practice range, the senior worked his way into the starting lineup. And yesterday, he enjoyed one of his finest days on the course. Lindblad made five birdies en route to an even-par 71, the lowest score of the day, leading the Bulldogs to the Maryland District II team title at Poolesville Golf Course.

During the offseason, Lindblad played as much golf as he could -- usually at Poolesville, Falls Road or "mooching" off teammates who belong to country clubs. The work has paid off as Lindblad had been solid during the regular season. Yesterday, he started off strong, getting up and down from a bunker for a birdie on his first hole and then sinking a 12-foot birdie putt on his fourth hole. In fact, Lindblad felt so good about the way he was playing that he easily shrugged off a double bogey on the following hole when he hooked his drive into tall grass and was unable to find the ball.

Mr. Dalley, who was addressing the Jamaican Women of Washington (JWoW) business development symposium at the Hampshire Greens Golf Club in Maryland on Thursday (Sept. 28), noted that violence was stressing the health care system, with 38,000 patients treated for violence-related injuries in 2005 at a cost of usd. 700 million. The number is more than twice the 15,700 violence-related visits to hospitals in 2004.

The symposium is part of JWoWs second annual fundraising golf tournament called Tee-Off Fore The Health Of It, the proceeds of which support programmes and organizations in Jamaica, that work to improve the health of women, children and families most in need. In the weeks leading up to states, Iselin went several times to practice at the University of Maryland course, which gave her trouble last year.

Baltimore County officials have a long history of interest in the Country Club of Marylands property. In 1999, the county Revenue Authority approached club members about buying the golf course and turning it into a public course, according to news reports.

The government will pay usd. 2 million to the Country Club of Maryland in Towson. In return, the club agrees to keep 143 acres off limits to development for 25 years. The club will also give the county 45 acres if it ever goes out of business.
