ESHC is a regional psychiatric center operated by the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene which provides mental health care for clients throughout the Eastern Shore, Southern Maryland, in some cases from across the whole of Maryland.

An annual bird-watching weekend on the Lower Eastern Shore of Maryland draws hundreds of people and will expand next year into Delaware and Virginias Eastern Shore. Wearing a golf shirt and baseball cap, Mr. Gilchrest set off with Cecil County officials recently to hike along the canal and discuss the areas potential for nature tourism. Nature tourists pump money into rural areas without changing them, he said, making it economically possible to preserve pastoral places even as farming continues to decline.

Admission to the games is free to all spectators and concessions will be available. Spectators can expect to see some of the best girls field hockey teams in Delaware and Maryland compete in head-to-head competition in what has become one of the best Downstate pre-season field hockey events.

The school has had a 30 percent increase in the number of for-credit students over the last four years, Stull said. The Alumni Association Golf Tournament will be Sept. 8 at Fountain Head Country Club. A 5K run and one-mile walk will be Sept. 9, and the HCC Alumni Ball will be that night. The school, formerly known as Hagerstown Junior College, was founded Sept. 10, 1946, becoming the first rural community college in Maryland.
