2006-09-12 Arkansas Childrens Hospital Cancer Patients Find Healing and Excitement in Bead Collections: Financial News-Yahoo. FinanceChase, an 8-year-old patient at Arkansas Childrens Hospital (ACH), has leukemia. The Little Rock resident has undergone chemotherapy, been in and out of the hospital and endured dozens of tube insertions. And for each of these procedures, Chase has received a corresponding bead through the hospitals new Beads of Courage program. The program is funded for the first full year through a special fund set up for the cancer unit. Funding for the following year will be provided by proceeds from a golf tournament set up by 10-year-old Little Rock resident Lexi Acuff, who had two friends who battled cancer. 2006-09-11 Northeast Arkansas Town Crier Online : NewsBuffalo Island Central won the girls District Championship Thursday at Thunder Bayou Golf Course in Blytheville. Lady Mustang Brannah Barrett took home medalist honors by shooting a nine hole score of 45. Teammate Katie Olive shot a 54, joining Barrett as a four time state qualifier. Ashley Sims, Katherine Clowers, and Erika Davis, all freshmen, all qualified for the first time. The girls Regional will be held Thursday, Sept. 14, at Coopers Hawk Golf Club in Melbourne.

She was a pioneer, an athlete, a mentor, a friend and an entertainer. She had a sense of humor that sparked a smile in all who met her. Berg was The Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year in 1938, 1943 and 1955. She was a top all-around athlete before turning to golf in her teens. She even quarterbacked a sandlot football squad called the 50 th Street Tigers that featured former Oklahoma Coach Bud Wilkinson, a neighbor and longtime friend. Berg served three years in the U. S. Marine Corps during World War II.

Other teams in the field included second place team Missouri State with 943, third place Illinois with 961 and fourth place Central Arkansas with 984. Ten strokes out of fourth place was Eastern Illinois with 994 and Northern took sixth with 1010. Nine strokes in front of Western Illinois was Loyola with 1030. The Western Illinois womens golf team took eighth place with a three-round team score of 1041 (347,351,343) at the Hawkeye Intercollegiate, Sunday. Fifteen stokes behind South Dakota State University at the end of day one, the Westerwinds came back to take eighth place by two strokes.
